Upcoming Album
Heather Neuenschwander and Rose Bishop are beyond excited to share the release of their new album, Unseen//Unheard, on Friday, September 26th!
This is the first album ever devoted entirely to duets for alto flute and bass flute, all composed within the past three years and commissioned by one or both of them.
Unseen//Unheard features an extraordinary collection of pieces by ten visionary composers: Nicole Chamberlain, Timothy Hagen, Leanna Keith - Flutist, Zachery Meier, Alyssa Mercedes Mena, Lisa Neher, Arturo Rodriguez, Sonya Leonore Stahl, Julie Stone, and Yoshi Weinberg. Each work brings a unique voice to the world of low flutes, expanding the repertoire in bold and beautiful ways.
Our name, Unseen//Unheard, was intentionally chosen to highlight instruments that are rarely featured in classical music. Just as these instruments often go unnoticed, so too do the voices of women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people of color in the classical world.
Our selection of composers reflects a commitment to amplifying those who have too often been overlooked. Each work brings a unique voice to the world of low flutes, expanding the repertoire in bold and beautiful ways.
We are especially grateful to Hal Ide for his beautiful artwork, as well as Carter Nolan, Lewis Fawcett, Greg Dixon, and Alex Allen for working with us on this project. We are also grateful for the Iowa Arts & Culture’s Arts Project Grant for funding this entire project
